- 4.1 Rules
- 4.1.1 Lab operators offer limited assistance on software supported by Technology Support Services. Lab operators will only help the student access specific software (departmental special software) installed on the network. Students needing general or detailed assistance on departmental specific software should contact the instructor who requires the use of the software.
- 4.1.2 It is the responsibility of the users to know the Policy on Computer Use of Computers and Data Communications at Appalachian State University. Printers are to be used for class assignments excluding the printing of course syllabi, outlines, assignment instructions, or any other "class handout" type materials. Students may print up to ten copies of any document/file on the lab printers. Additional copies must be produced on a copy machine.
- 4.1.3 When all stations are in use and others are waiting to work on a class assignment, students doing non-class related work must give up their station when asked by an operator or consultant. It is the responsibility of the student to provide his/her own diskettes for saving documents/files. Users are encouraged to always keep a backup file of their important documents.

1.1 There are now close to 2,500 public workstations across campus. The largest student computing facility is in Belk Library Information Commons, which now has over 400 public workstations. Almost every academic department has computing facilities available.
2.1 We hope you find your use of the ASU computer labs easy and helpful. If you have any concerns or questions about the following policies, please call (828) 262-6266. The computer labs are available for Appalachian State University students to complete class assignments. All students are asked to respect the rights of others in order to have a quiet environment to complete their assignments. The Technology Support Services staff reserves the right to ask a student to leave a computer lab when he or she does not comply with these rules. Students violating the Computer Lab Rules will be referred to the Technology Support Services Lab Supervisor.
4 Policy and Procedure Statements
- Students must be a registered student at Appalachian State University and have a valid ID.
- Food, beverages, and tobacco products are not allowed in the lab.
- Students must not disturb or distract others by conducting themselves in an unacceptable manner.
- Computer game playing is prohibited.
- Computers are available on a first come, first serve basis.
- Students should not save files on the lab computers since the hard drives are regularly purged. Technology Support Services is not responsible for the loss of files due to power failures, computer hardware/software failures, network difficulties and/or students not periodically saving their work. Nor is TSS responsible if TSS cannot recover lost files or fix damaged disks.
